Base pay range

$130,000.00/yr - $160,000.00/yr

About the Company

Sims Metal is the world’s leading publicly listed metal recycler, with operations encompassing the buying, processing, and selling ferrous and non-ferrous recycled metals. The metals recycling operations are geographically diverse, with operations on five continents. They comprise a network of processing facilities, many with deep-water port access, supported by an extensive network of feeder yards from which to source recyclable ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Purpose of the role
  • Design, lead and drive the company's financial governance framework and related processes, ensuring the business has aligned its obligations and the group has confidence in the reported results.
  • Ensure operational and financial policies are developed, reviewed, and updated (as applicable) to fit‑for‑purpose, simple, and meet the company’s strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure the alignment of improved financial controls across the organization aligned with the corporate strategy and under a simplification remit.
  • Working with the Head of Assurance, the Group Financial Controller, and other key team members, you proactively work to monitor and improve the financial governance of the company.
  • Implement best practices to simplify and standardize key processes across various departments and regions.
  • Work closely with different teams to integrate policies and processes seamlessly into existing operations. During new business acquisitions by Sims, the role is accountable for ensuring financial policies and processes are adopted and understood expeditiously.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure policies and processes are practical and effective.
  • Provide training and support to our people to ensure understanding and compliance with relevant policies and processes.
  • Turn process weaknesses into opportunities by bringing experiences and perspectives from your past roles and industries.
  • Establish metrics and monitoring systems to evaluate the effectiveness of policies and processes, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in policy and process management. The role brings an operating and practical lens to the application of financial requirements and disciplines for the company. It ensures we are driving a visionary approach to consistent financial performance, uplifting controls and governance, whilst supporting the group in managing changing business environments and required improvements through the mentoring and influencing of others.

Formal Education & Experience preferred
  • 10+ years of senior‑level experience in finance and business transformation.
  • A financial controller coupled with great experience in policies and process improvement.
  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related field.
  • Six Sigma Certification or similar process improvement/re‑design qualification is highly desirable.
  • Experience in policy development, process improvement, or a related role.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of operational and financial processes within a global organization.
Additional info
  • This position requires flexibility in work hours. Occasional travel throughout North America is required during acquisitions for visiting sites and formalizing new business plans. As an international company, this position also requires being available to work in multiple time zones for meetings, etc.
