A Day in the Life and the Impact You'll Make
The Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Facilitator provides technical leadership and facilitation services to support client process safety improvement initiatives. This role focuses on leading high-quality PHA studies, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and delivering practical, risk-based recommendations aligned with regulatory and industry best practices.
At Saltegra, you will collaborate within a pod-based consulting model, working closely with Process Safety Engineers, Scribes, and Client Stakeholders to deliver consistent, high-value outcomes.
Work is primarily project-based and may involve significant onsite facilitation travel. Limited remote work is typically focused on preparation, documentation, and review activities between client engagements.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and facilitate PHA studies including HAZOP, What-If, Checklist, FMEA, HAZID, and LOPA.
- Select appropriate PHA methodology based on project scope and process complexity.
- Prepare for and conduct client-facing workshops (virtual and in-person)
- Guide teams in identifying scenarios, consequences, safeguards, and recommendations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of studies within PHA software (PHAPro or equivalent).
- Ensure all deliverables align with Saltegra technical and documentation standards prior to client release.
- Review and validate scenarios, safeguards, and risk rankings.
- Write and review technical reports and executive summaries.
- Interpret and review P&IDs, process flow diagrams, block flow diagrams, and related technical drawings.
- Provide practical and risk-based recommendations aligned with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and relevant industry standards.
- Collaborate with pod team members to ensure quality and consistency.
- Support client relationship development through professional communication and responsiveness.
- Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
- BS (or higher) in Chemical, Mechanical, Fire Protection Engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in process safety management; 4+ years facilitation experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating PHAs in industrial settings (Oil & Gas, Chemical, Manufacturing preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of PSM, RMP, combustible dust, chemical reaction hazards, flammable liquids/gases.
- Experience using PHA software tools (PHAPro or similar).
- Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, CCPS, and related standards.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Preferred: CCPS, P.E., FSP, CFSE, or equivalent process safety certifications.
- Ability to manage time-driven deadlines and client expectations.
- Comfortable working independently and within a pod-based team structure.
Physical & Work Considerations
- Ability to travel to client sites as required (up to 50-60%).
- May require extended computer-based work.
- Ability to safely work in refinery, chemical, and industrial operating environments when onsite.
- Travel may include long driving distances or air travel.
- This role is expected to utilize the employee's personal computer and reliable internet connection that meets Saltegra's minimum security and performance standards.
Compensation
Compensation is based on an hourly W-2 rate aligned to confirmed project assignments. Hourly rates are determined based on experience, certifications, facilitation expertise, and consulting level. Work hours will be tracked in accordance with company timekeeping policies. Travel time and work hours will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour regulations and Saltegra's timekeeping policies.

- For 1099 contractors, project opportunities are shared for open bidding. Interested contractors submit proposals outlining their relevant skills, experience, availability, and proposed rates based on the project scope and duration. Selection is made based on overall fit, qualifications, and competitiveness of the proposal.
