Job summary

Middough Inc. is seeking a Process Engineering Department Manager in Downers Grove, IL. You will lead a team of engineers to deliver projects on time and within budget, while adhering to codes, standards, and Middough processes.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years as a process engineer and 5+ years in leadership, with strong experience in refining, oil & gas, and chemicals, plus familiarity with AspenTech. A PE license is preferred and Microsoft Office proficiency is expected.

Qualifications

  • Accredited BS in a Process Engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical or Mechanical).
  • PE license preferred.
  • 15+ years as a Process Engineer with 5+ years in leadership.
  • Experience in batch processes, refining, oil & gas, and chemicals.
  • Proven coaching and team-development capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct the team on projects.
  • Collaborate with senior management on project planning and staffing.
  • Coach and develop engineers using best practices and training tools.
  • Direct planning, cost development, and scheduling for projects.
  • Provide quality checks and reviews of all projects.
  • Manage quality standards and approve technical deliverables.
  • Perform technical analyses for complex projects and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Support business development and client proposals as needed.

Job description

Process Engineering Department Manager - Position and Responsibilities

As a Process Engineering Department Manager (DM) with Middough, you will lead, direct, and manage a team to complete assigned work on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes/standards and Middough work processes and guidelines. The DM will also provide technical and management leadership by solving complex problems using technology, lessons learned, and best practices for technical and project execution excellence.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct team members to the successful completion of projects.
  • Collaborate with senior management in coordinating work for projects.
  • Collaborate with senior management and HR on technical staffing to recruit and interview candidates.
  • Coach and develop team members using best practices, performance management, supportive behavior, and training tools.
  • Participate in planning, cost-development, project management and scheduling for assigned projects
  • Use company work processes to provide quality checks and reviews of all assigned projects.
  • Manage quality and accuracy standards for the process department and review and approve completed technical deliverables.
  • Perform technical analysis and solutions for complex or unique projects.
  • Secure peer review as needed to help guarantee quality products are produced per client, industry, and company expectations.
  • Use scheduling and earned value tool(s) to help ensure forecasting is predictable and projects are completed on time and per budget.
  • Develop client rapport by providing valued technical and managerial solutions.
  • Take an active role as needed in support of business development activities to keep team productive.
  • Provide support and input for client proposals and presentations.
Education, Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in a Process Engineering discipline (e.g. Chemical or Mechanical).
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience as a Process Engineer.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience including leading, developing, and coaching a team of engineers.
  • Strong experience in process engineering with batch processes, refining, oil and gas, industrial chemicals, agricultural and/or food / beverage.
  • Experience with AspenTech software suite is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organized for effective project planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
