Job summary

Middough Inc. is seeking an Industrial Lead Process Engineer in Downers Grove, IL to collect data, perform calculations, develop specs, and lead complex projects while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with clients.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Engineering, 5–15 years of experience, and knowledge of API/ASME codes, HYSYS/AspenPlus, and process design. Hybrid work model, competitive benefits, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; chemical preferred.
• 5–15 years of experience performing basic engineering analysis and design functions.
• PE license preferred.
• Experience in pressure relief analysis and flare system design and documentation.
• Process flow drawing (PFD) and P&ID development experience preferred.
• Experience in the design of process equipment (vessels, pumps, exchangers, fired heaters/equipment, compressors) specifications.
• Ability to perform heat exchanger design calculation.
• Working knowledge of API 520/521 and ASME codes.
• Process steady state modeling experience (HYSYS, AspenPlus, etc.).
• Hydraulic modeling experience (AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, etc.) preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and attention to detail abilities.
• Excellent multitasking and organizational abilities for project efficiency.

Lead Process Engineer - Position and Responsibilities

As an Industrial Lead Process Engineer with Middough, you will collect and prepare data/information and perform detailed engineering calculations. The Industrial Lead Process Engineer will also perform engineering design and analysis on complex or unique problems and will coach/develop less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters. The Industrial Lead Process Engineer will demonstrate technical/professional growth annually by maintaining active membership in professional organizations and participating in technical seminars/courses.

Responsibilities

• Collect and prepare data/information, perform detailed engineering calculations, and write formal engineering/technical reports.
• Develop technical specifications and data sheets, perform technical evaluation of bids, and recommend best value design which meets client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
• Provide field leadership work by checking installations and problem‑solving activities.
• Perform calculation checking and vendor drawing reviews.
• Serve as a Project Lead for more complex projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, and checking project deliverables prior to issuance.
• Interact with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.

Education, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; chemical preferred.
• 5‑15 years of experience performing basic engineering analysis and design functions.
• PE license preferred.
• Preferred experience in any of chemicals, refining, agribusiness, food, pharma/bio, oil and gas.
• Experience in pressure relief analysis and flare system design and documentation.
• Process flow drawing (PFD) and P&ID development experience preferred.
• Experience in the design of process equipment (vessels, pumps, exchangers, fired heaters/equipment, compressors) specifications.
• Ability to perform heat exchanger design calculation.

Physical Requirements

• Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

Noise levels may be moderate to high at various client sites, hearing protection may be required and/or provided. Safety protections provided by the client and/or company are required to be used and followed.
• May require occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
• This position requires the candidate/employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence and auto insurance coverage.
