Job summary

Talisman is seeking a Process Engineer to lead wastewater treatment process design on municipal and industrial projects, fully remote in the US. The role emphasizes mass balances, biological modeling, aeration and solids handling, with a focus on deeper process expertise over broad delivery.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in consulting, a valid EIT/PE (or eligibility within 12 months), and proven BioWin or GPS-X modeling capabilities. Join a focused team advancing treatment solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of wastewater treatment process design in a consulting environment.
  • EIT or PE license (or eligible within 12 months).
  • BioWin or GPS-X modeling experience is a core requirement.
  • Strong grounding in activated sludge kinetics and nutrient removal chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process design for wastewater treatment facilities including preliminary, primary and secondary treatment and disinfection.
  • Design and evaluate nutrient removal systems (BNR, nitrification/denitrification, MBR, IFAS, MBBR, SBR, AS sludge).
  • Build and calibrate process models in BioWin or GPS-X; run plant simulations and sensitivity analyses.
  • Develop mass balances, load projections and design criteria; size unit processes.
  • Support aeration system design, blower, diffuser and equipment selection with vendors.
  • Design solids handling trains including digestion, dewatering and biosolids management.
  • Produce PFDs, P&IDs, process narratives and equipment specs; support permitting submittals.

Job description

Process Engineer — Wastewater Treatment Design - US-Based | Fully Remote

We're partnered with a water and wastewater consultancy hiring a Process Engineer to lead treatment process design on municipal and industrial projects, fully remote. This is a specialist process seat; mass balances, biological modeling, aeration and solids handling. It is not a general civil role with a process label on it.

Suited to someone around five years in who wants to go deeper on process rather than broader on delivery.

What you'll do
  • Lead process design for wastewater treatment facilities: preliminary treatment, primary and secondary clarification, biological treatment, disinfection, and solids handling
  • Design and evaluate biological nutrient removal systems; nitrification/denitrification, bio-P, MBR, IFAS, MBBR, SBR, and conventional activated sludge
  • Build and calibrate process models in BioWin or GPS-X; run whole-plant simulations, sensitivity analyses, and future-condition scenarios
  • Develop mass balances, load projections, and process design criteria; size and select unit processes
  • Design aeration systems and support blower, diffuser, and equipment selection with vendors
  • Design solids handling trains: thickening, anaerobic and aerobic digestion, dewatering, and biosolids management
  • Produce hydraulic profiles, PFDs, P&IDs, process narratives, and equipment specifications
  • Support pilot studies, sampling programs, and plant performance evaluations
  • Prepare facility plans, basis of design reports, and state regulatory and NPDES permitting submittals
  • Provide startup, commissioning, and process optimization support; troubleshoot operating plants
What you'll bring
  • 5+ years of wastewater treatment process design in a consulting environment
  • EIT / PE license, or sitting within 12 months
  • Demonstrated BioWin or GPS-X modeling capability, this is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have
  • Strong grounding in activated sludge kinetics, SRT-based design, nutrient removal chemistry, and digester performance
  • Experience with effluent limits, permit compliance strategy, and state regulatory review
  • Comfortable owning technical scope independently and writing clearly for clients and reviewers
