Job summary

Amcor LLC in Mundelein, IL seeks a Senior Process Engineer to deliver technical and process engineering services across manufacturing, development, and commercialization of new products. You will help troubleshoot and optimize production using PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and automation hardware, supporting safety and quality improvements.

Responsibilities include leading continuous improvement initiatives, guiding cross-functional teams with Maintenance and Engineering, and mentoring less senior staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering required.
  • 5–7 years of experience in engineering or process role in a flexible packaging/converting operation.
  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical controls, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and drives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical controls and PLC programming support for manufacturing equipment and new product commercialization.
  • Lead PLC-based troubleshooting for complex production and downtime issues.
  • Support design, modification, and optimization of control systems including PLC logic and automation hardware.

The Senior Process Engineer will also assist process development, operations and technical groups in developing and implementing process improvements, troubleshooting production/quality issues, and transferring process/ troubleshooting knowledge to the organization. Provide technical support to sales, marketing, and customers as needed in troubleshooting existing products, enhancing existing products, and development of new products. Responsible for implementing and leading Continuous Improvement initiatives and facilitating world class operations management methodologies throughout the organization.WHAT YOU GET TO DOProvide electrical controls and PLC programming support for manufacturing equipment, process improvements, and new product commercialization efforts.Lead and support PLC-based troubleshooting for complex production, quality, and downtime issues in collaboration with Maintenance and Controls resources.Support the design, modification, and optimization of control systems, including PLC logic, HMIs, sensors, drives, and automation hardware.Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and OEMs during equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning, ensuring controls functionality meets process and safety requirements.Support Environmental Health & Safety for the facility, following all current policies and procedures and making an effort to improve the Environmental Health and Safety performance of our facility.Coordinate project orders with Production Planning to best fit production schedule with minimal impact to customer ordersProvide technical guidance to Maintenance operations to make improvements and resolve issues based on process knowledgeLeads change for Troubleshooting production and process problems; communicates with manufacturing, quality, and technical people regarding run problems; investigates root causes and recommends and helps implement corrective actions.Reviews data and trial reports from technical for products being developed and reports concerns and results to the appropriate department managers.Production Trial owner, following and coordination of production trials providing accurate and detailed feedback to Trial owners Manufacturing, Technical Manager and Marketing.Analyze trial quality, output and waste data to determine trial effectiveness / specification commercialization.Monitors and improves product quality. Resolves quality issues and dispositions quarantined product. Researches assignable causes of customer complaints and works closely with customers to resolve and prevent quality issues. Regularly visits customers and coordinates operator visits to customers.Writes, performs, analyzes, and reports on trails, scale-ups, and validations for the manufacturing processes. Makes recommendations based on trailsGenerate and gather ideas for product enhancements, cost savings, and new products from all sources (sales, vendors, customers, R&D, manufacturing, journals, and others); able to effectively communicate/interact with Sales, Marketing, and the CustomerProvide suggestions for product enhancements to R&D engineers to improve manufacturing results based on process experienceOperate as a “go-to” for other Engineers, operations, and maintenance for solutions to process or quality issuesAssess current processes to look for areas of improvement in processes (including procedures, conditions, and equipment), and make those recommendations to managementTarget/resolve repetitive customer claim issues by working with customers and manufacturingLead continuous improvement teams to deliver process and business improvements. Position may also be eligible for Amcor’s Management Incentive Plan / Sales Incentive Plan, which is an annual bonus program based on business and individual performance, as well as medical coverage and other health and welfare benefits. The salary range provided reflects the anticipated base pay for this role at the time of this posting. This range is applicable to positions performed in jurisdictions with pay transparency requirements, including CA, CO, CT, HI, IL, MD, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NY, RI, VT, WA, Washington DC, as well as remote roles that may be performed in these locations. Compensation for roles performed outside of these jurisdictions may vary.
