Overview
The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes—primarily within injection molding—to ensure consistent product quality, efficiency, and reliability. This role drives root cause analysis, leads continuous improvement initiatives, and supports cross-functional teams in scaling production, troubleshooting complex issues, and implementing best-in-class process control strategies. The Process Engineer plays a critical part in achieving operational excellence and meeting key production and quality targets.
Essential Functions
- Lead process development and optimization activities for injection molding operations to ensure part quality, repeatability, and uptime.
- Create and validate robust molding processes for new tool launches, engineering changes, and material validations.
- Conduct scientific molding trials, DOE studies, and capability analyses to optimize process windows.
- Analyze downtime, scrap trends, and process variation to drive root cause identification and resolution.
- Develop and maintain process documentation including setup sheets, control plans, and standard work instructions.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Process Technicians and junior engineering staff.
- Collaborate with tooling and maintenance teams for mold validations, repairs, and enhancements.
- Support automation integration, including robotic EOAT setup, sensor applications, and cycle efficiency improvements.
- Assist with capital projects, mold and equipment commissioning, and production readiness of new assets.
- Use analytical tools (SPC, FMEA, 8D, PDCA) to support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as the process liaison during customer audits, APQP reviews, and product launch activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in injection molding; previous technician experience is a plus.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex molding issues and implement sustainable solutions.
- Strong background in scientific molding principles and equipment capability (hydraulic, electric, hybrid).
- Skilled in reading and interpreting hydraulic/pneumatic schematics and electrical prints.
- Proficient with PLC logic and automation systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with industry standards and tools such as ISO, IQ/OQ/PQ, FMEA, DOE, and SPC.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
- Strong communicator and team player; able to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 P/A - Negotiable on experience
