Job summary

Mercedes-Benz Group AG in Kentucky is seeking a Process Engineer for the Paint Shop Wax group. Under general supervision, you will support shop operations to enable safe, productive processes in line with the Mercedes Production System.

You will monitor process quality, drive improvement projects, coordinate TPM and weekly reviews, and lead cross-functional problem solving with suppliers and production teams to ensure process integrity and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering/Science, or related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Co-Op/internship and/or up to 2 years' professional experience in Chemical Engineering, pretreatment and ecoating systems, automotive pretreatment and Ecoat process system.
  • Very strong problem solving skills in a cross-functional team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring Process & Quality; Troubleshooting Wax/AFA/SKW/VIN and related systems.
  • Lead process improvement projects and CI initiatives.
  • Coordinate TPM checks, data reviews, and process audits.
  • Support daily/weekly production meetings and KPI tracking.

Process Engineer, Paint Shop Wax Group : Mercedes-Benz Group AG

Description

Purpose of the Position

Under general supervision, this position will support shop operations to facilitate a safe and productive process in accord with the Mercedes Production System (MPS).

Essential Functions
  • Monitoring Process & Quality, Troubleshooting - Wax/ AFA/ SKW/ VIN
  • Process and CI projects
  • Daily PE, Production and Line meetings
  • Weekly Bottleneck review with Shop management
  • Project funding coordinator for PE
  • Coordination of Weekend work for all of my areas
  • Regular communication with operators in my areas on daily issues
  • Monitoring Material supply situation for Wax and AFA
  • Attend Weekly VoCa meeting when necessary
  • Various Vendor meetings to discuss material issues.
  • TPM checks, Iportal and SFM data review daily
  • Review of process data for all my systems.
  • SMP updates
  • KPI's with dispense checks and cycle time
  • Develop systems to improve process capability.
  • Identify special process characteristics and their required control limits.
  • Perform, maintain and develop countermeasures for potential failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Develop the content of Total Productive Maintenance inspections to assist in control of the process.
  • Manage process continuous improvement projects for model changes, new technologies, process modifications and cost improvements.
  • Ensure product and process integrity through implementation of MPS and daily/weekly process audits.
  • Develop processes and maintain integrity with respect to safety/ergonomics, quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Perform process capability studies and audits as required to maintain the highest level of product quality.
  • Investigate process/product problems and implement and verify effective countermeasures working in conjunction with (Group Leaders, Team Leaders, Team Members and Supplier Quality Engineering, Production Planning System, EVS-development Liaison group, Process Engineering, Production Control System and development departments), utilizing the problem solving process.
  • Ensure the optimal condition of equipment and processes.
  • Evaluate work station layouts, prepare standard times which were determined by evaluation of standard and empirical data and validate process times to ensure optimized process design.
  • Plan and prepare for product changes and their impact on processes, equipment, tooling, etc.
  • Participate in production trials with appropriate departments and verify closure of concerns.
  • Assist in closing concerns generated from quality audits including VoCA (Voice of Customer Audit).
  • Generate equipment and tooling specifications.
  • Assist in training for paint team members, team leaders and group leaders on process changes.
  • Evaluate alternative production processes and assess their viability.
  • Evaluate impact of engineering changes on shop processes.
  • Perform error analysis and countermeasures.
  • Write rework and repair procedures.
  • Verify production readiness through Standard Methods and Procedures audits.
  • Prepare formal reports for the purpose of communicating problem/project status.
  • Lead across functional problem solving meetings with other departments.
  • Analyze production statistics (downtime, First Time Capability, quality concerns, and Total Productive Maintenance).

Perform safe work practices and participate in trainings and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards and laws. Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to Management or Safety Department. Work safely 100% of the time.
