Job summary

Illumina in Madison, WI, is seeking a Process Engineer II to support enzymes production through process development, optimization, and scale‑up. You will partner with engineering, operations, and QA to improve equipment performance and process capability across fermentation, purification, and analytical systems.

You will apply lean, Six Sigma, JMP, Excel analytics, and regression techniques to drive improvements, ensure quality, and support technology transfer from development to manufacturing.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent technical training/experience.
• Experience applying statistical tools, JMP, regression, DOE, and SPC to engineering reports and process improvement decisions.
• Desire to grow toward Senior Engineer by leading cross-functional projects and mentoring others.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams and vendors to design, troubleshoot, and improve manufacturing and laboratory systems.
• Apply engineering principles to develop, optimize, and scale manufacturing processes and equipment using lean, Six Sigma, JMP, and data-driven methods.
• Evaluate process performance, identify risks, and recommend maintenance, spare parts, and reliability strategies for critical systems.
• Prepare and manage engineering reports, protocols, and maintenance instructions to support design, qualification, and scale‑up decisions.
• Incorporate quality, validation, and regulatory requirements into system design and continuous improvement activities.
• Lead cross-functional projects aligning local, national, and international teams on process strategy and data-driven improvements.
• Mentor supporting engineers and contribute to team culture through collaboration and problem solving.
