Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical/process design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead activities of workers who operate and control equipment to affect required chemical or physical change.

Job description

What You'll Be Doing

Assist with troubleshooting issues at operating plants and develop solutions that are timely and cost effective. Provide solutions that may include design packages with equipment specifications and P&ID updates to reflect changes. Assist in managing projects to completion, including tracking the project time.

  • Develop a basic understanding of processes such as issuing information to customers.
  • Conduct research to develop new and improved ethanol manufacturing processes, including P&ID and equipment specification development.
  • Develop material and energy balances for new and developing processes with input from senior engineers.
  • Design, plan layout, and assist customers engaged in constructing, controlling, and improving equipment to carry out ethanol processes on an industrial scale.
  • Analyze operating procedures and equipment and machinery function to reduce processing time and cost.
  • Design processes to control the movement and storage of solids, liquids, and gases.
  • Design and plan measurement and control systems for ethanol plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments, pilot plant operations, and industrial scale operations.
  • Determine the most effective arrangement of unit operations, exercising judgment to compromise between process requirements, economic evaluation, operator effectiveness, and physical and health hazards.
  • Lead activities of workers who operate and control such equipment as condensers, evaporators, pumps, columns, heat exchangers, valves, tanks, boilers, compressors, pipelines, and centrifuges to affect required chemical or physical change.
  • Perform tests and take measurements throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure.
  • Apply principles of chemical engineering to solve environmental problems.
Background & Education
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
Experience & Skills
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering.
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office, Adobe, and AutoCAD software.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision after the initial training period.
  • Act with honesty and integrity.
  • Fluent verbal and written English language skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Office-based role with approximately 20% travel to sister and client sites.
