Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is seeking a Process Engineer II in Chapel Hill to design energy-efficient building solutions and enable sustainable projects. You will develop P&ID’s, sizing calculations, and heat transfer analyses, while engaging in design meetings and field surveys.

This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5+ years in process engineering, and a strong ability to interpret design codes and work both independently and in teams to deliver client outcomes.

• Ability to perform mass and energy balances.
• Knowledge of piping systems and unit operations in pharma/food/chemical processing.
• Understanding of applicable design codes, standards and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Develop P&ID’s, equipment and piping specifications; perform hydraulic sizing and heat transfer calculations.
• Attend design meetings and conduct field surveys; facilitate PHA.
• Review vendor quotations and submittals; support various project phases from consulting to detailed design, commissioning and startup.

As a Process Engineer II in our Chapel Hill office, you will help us empower our clients to achieve energy-efficient building solutions, save global environments, and create a better, greener future for all.

Here’s Why We Need You

In this role, you will use your skills to develop P&ID’s, equipment and piping specifications, complete hydraulic sizing, and heat transfer calculations. Other responsibilities include attending design meetings, performing field surveys, facilitating Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), fielding vendor quotations and reviewing vendor submittals. Project roles will vary from pure consulting to performing detailed design, commissioning, and startup services based on project requirements. Knowledge of the pharmaceutical validation process or experience with CIP/SIP systems is desired.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil) plus a minimum of 5 years of process engineering experience.
• Ability to complete mass and energy balances.
• Knowledge and experience with piping systems and a variety of unit operations as applied to pharmaceutical, food, and chemical processing.
• Understanding of applicable design codes, standards and specification requirements, and ability to interpret them.
