Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America is seeking a Process Engineer to analyze and improve mechanical and chemical processes at the mill. The role includes designing trials, optimizing control systems, and driving cost reductions while maintaining safety and quality.

You will collaborate with senior engineers to implement model-based control implementations and train crews on new processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Paper Science or related field.
• EIT certification preferred; track is acceptable.
• 2 years in a process engineering role; paper mill experience preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of control systems (digital/analog).
• Experience with model-based control applications and relevant software.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities for cross‑functional work.

Responsibilities

• Improve mill profit and loss by designing and evaluating trials.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and equipment for compatibility.
• Investigate production issues and report recommendations to management.
• Develop plans, specs and reports for trials and projects.
• Support engineers in environmental, quality and productivity studies.
• Train staff in plant operations and control changes.
