Job summary

Jensen Metal Products is seeking an entry-level Process Engineer I to support its sheet metal fabrication operations. You will troubleshoot production issues, develop efficient methods, and drive continuous improvement across laser cutting, forming, welding, finishing, and assembly.

The role collaborates with Production, Quality, Planning, Purchasing, and Maintenance to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (preferred)
  • Recent graduate or up to 3 years in manufacturing/process engineering
  • Internship or co-op experience preferred
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, CNC machining, or metal forming is a plus
  • Working knowledge of CAD; SolidWorks preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel): data analysis, PivotTables
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot production and quality issues in daily manufacturing
  • Develop efficient manufacturing methods for new and existing products
  • Evaluate processes to improve throughput and reduce waste
  • Support fabrication: laser cutting, press brake forming, welding, grinding, boring and assembly
  • Create and maintain routings and BOMs
  • Write and revise work instructions and SOPs
  • Support product launches and transfers to production
  • Participate in root-cause investigations and CAPA actions

Position Summary

The Process Engineer I supports manufacturing operations by developing, improving, and sustaining production processes throughout the sheet metal fabrication operation. This entry-level engineering position partners closely with Production, Quality, Planning, Purchasing, and Maintenance to improve safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery.

The Process Engineer I assists with troubleshooting manufacturing issues, implementing engineering changes, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across laser cutting, forming, welding, finishing, and assembly operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Support

  • Support daily manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production and quality issues
  • Assist in developing efficient manufacturing methods for new and existing products
  • Evaluate production processes and recommend improvements that increase throughput and reduce waste
  • Support fabrication processes including:
  • Fiber laser cutting
  • Press brake forming
  • Welding (MIG, TIG, robotic)
  • Hardware insertion
  • Grinding and finishing
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions for production issues

Engineering Documentation

  • Create and maintain manufacturing routings and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Develop and revise work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
  • Maintain engineering documentation within the ERP system

Product & Customer Support

  • Review customer drawings for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Assist with prototype builds and first article production
  • Support product launches and engineering transfers into production
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to resolve technical questions

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives
  • Analyze production metrics to identify opportunities for improved efficiency
  • Recommend tooling, fixture, or process improvements that reduce cycle time and improve quality

Quality & Compliance

  • Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Assist with nonconforming material investigations
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company quality standards and customer specifications
  • Support ISO 9001 quality system requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, preferred but not required
  • Recent college graduate or up to three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or production engineering role
  • Manufacturing internship, co-op, or other hands-on engineering experience preferred
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, welding, laser cutting, CNC machining, press brake operations, or metal forming is preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of CAD preferred SolidWorks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel (formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis), Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation including engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), routers, work instructions, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, continuous improvement, and root cause problem-solving methodologies is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications

Physical Demands
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout office and manufacturing environments
  • Regularly use a computer and review drawings, specifications, and production data
  • Occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to wear required PPE and work safely in production areas
