Hargrove is seeking an entry‑level Engineer in Mobile, AL to assist in routine process design tasks under direct supervision. The role emphasizes safety, adherence to department standards, and collaborative problem solving with a cross‑disciplinary team.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering, with EIT preferred and up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) registration strongly preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum or biochemical process design engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of process design engineering and related software.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; strong verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Promoting the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process design.
  • Familiarity with department standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria on project tasks.
  • Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies for efficient solution.
  • Assisting in producing preliminary designs and material take-offs for estimates.
  • Assisting in producing detail design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
  • Assisting in producing designs with efficient material use and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborating with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth information flow.
  • Willingness to travel on-site for work, meetings, or training.

Job description

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Promoting the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process design.

  • Familiarity with and utilizing department standards, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.

  • Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.

  • Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.

  • Assisting in producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.

  • Assisting in producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.

  • Assisting the design groups in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.

  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.

  • Willing to travel as required for on-site work, project meetings, or training opportunities.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration is strongly preferred.

Experience: This position requires up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum or biochemical process design engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of chemical/biochemical process design engineering and chemical/biochemical process computer programs.

  • Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD and/or Microstation.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. - Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Developing virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships, and supporting interoffice execution with direct supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
