Job summary

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors is seeking an entry-level process engineer to perform routine designs and support project teams in Birmingham, Alabama. You will develop conceptual layouts, assist with cost studies, and contribute to preliminary design work under direct supervision.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering and an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
  • EIT registration is strongly preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in process design engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine designs of less complex engineering assignments under direct supervision.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine simplest, most efficient approach.
  • Assist in producing estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Produce detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
  • Collaborate with design leaders to ensure smooth information flow and timely completion.
  • Travel to on-site projects, meetings, or training as needed.

What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: Generally responsible for performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Promoting the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process design.Familiarity with and utilizing department standards, procedures, and guidelines.Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.Assisting in producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.Assisting in producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.Assisting the design groups in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.Willing to travel as required for on-site work, project meetings, or training opportunities.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration is strongly preferred.Experience: This position requires up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum or biochemical process design engineering.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Basic knowledge of chemical/biochemical process design engineering and chemical/biochemical process computer programs.Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD and/or Microstation.Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. - Good communication skills, both verbal and written.Developing virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships, and supporting interoffice execution with direct supervision.Physical Requirements:Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Hargrove CultureWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
