Job summary

Corning's Durham Campus is seeking an engineer to lead manufacturing process improvements for glass, extrusion, and injection molded products. You will drive yield, rate, and equipment availability, partnering with operations and engineering to improve safety, quality, and reliability.

Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm with some off-hours call rotation to support 24/7 operations. The role requires a bachelor's in a related field and up to 2 years of manufacturing or R&D experience; Six

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Plastics or Materials Science, or related discipline.
• 0-2+ years of experience in an engineering/technical role in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
• Availability to participate in rotating off-hours call schedule and to flex working hours as needed.
• Master's degree in a related engineering or materials discipline (desired).
• Experience with injection molding or extrusion processes (desired).
• Experience using Six Sigma tools such as process capability studies, SPC and measurement systems analysis (desired).
• Experience planning DOEs and writing or executing validation protocols (desired).
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 820, GMP and OSHA (desired).

Responsibilities

• Lead process improvement initiatives that increase yield, production rate and machine availability (OEE).
• Respond to production and process upsets, diagnose root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Manage capital and non-capital projects from concept through implementation, including DOE design and validation.
• Apply Six Sigma and SPC tools to build robust, standardized processes.
• Maintain compliance with site quality systems through change control, audits and training.
