Job summary

Castalloy Group in Wisconsin seeks an engineer to design and build new tooling, develop processes for new products, and optimize tooling for quality and efficiency. You will work with engineering and operations to implement effective manufacturing solutions.

The role emphasizes interpreting drawings, conducting tooling tests, and collaborating with vendors. A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, with strong communication and organizational skills enhanced by experience with MS Office

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; report writing and policy/manual development.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
  • Experience with MS Office; familiarity with AX, Blue Star, Solid Cast, and SolidWorks is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create new tooling, including simulations where appropriate.
  • Create process specifications for new jobs across core make, molding, melt and pour, cleaning and heat treatment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings to ensure quality and reliability standards.
  • Review casting and assembly designs for manufacturability feedback.
  • Execute sampling of new jobs to validate quality and manufacturability.
  • Identify quality improvement opportunities to reduce scrap and rework.
  • Perform process audits and report findings.
  • Analyze cost impact of processes, materials, and tools for cost-sensitive decisions.
  • Perform dimensional analysis of castings and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for materials/services.
  • With training, troubleshoot and program Castalloy's robots and 3D printers.

Job description

This position will take daily direction from the engineering manager with key responsibilities being the design and construction of new tooling, creation of new processes and application of existing processes for new product introductions, and optimization of tooling and processes to optimize quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out the design and creation of new tooling, including when appropriate the use of simulations
  • Create process specifications for new jobs, including core make, molding, melt and pour, cleaning and heat treatment
  • Interpret engineering drawings to determine quality and reliability standard
  • s.Review casting and assembly designs and provide feedback to design engineering regarding feasibility of manufacturing
  • Execute sampling of new jobs to validate the quality and manufacturability
  • Identify and pursue quality improvement activities (scrap reduction and rework reduction) on problem jobs
  • Perform process audits, comparing process documentation with what is actually being done and completing an audit report to detail the findings
  • Analyze cost impact of processes, materials and tools to facilitate cost-sensitive decision-making during process and tooling design
  • Perform dimensional analysis of castings and assembly
  • Work cooperatively with external vendors to ensure the supply of necessary materials or services when appropriate
  • With training, perform troubleshooting and programming of Castalloy’s robot and 3D printers
Qualifications
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and personnel policies and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, executives and other employees of the organization. Require good communication and negotiation skills
  • Good organizational skills and ability to balance many different projects at a time
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. The employee occasionally required to stand.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Demonstrated communication and organizational skills
  • iPrior experience with Microsoft Office software. Experience with Microsoft AX and Blue Star, Solid Cast software and Solidworks helpful
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
