Job description

Essential Function

The position is responsible for developing, optimizing, and controlling CNC machining processes for silicon and other brittle materials to ensure all dimensional, cosmetic, and performance requirements for semiconductor applications are met. The engineer must understand complex manufacturing workflows, CNC equipment and programming, material‑removal technologies, tooling, and consumables in support of Silfex operations. The role focuses on managing and controlling machining processes to meet customer specifications with strong emphasis on safety and quality. This position serves as the company’s subject matter expert for CNC machining and leads the development, implementation, and qualification of machining processes required to support customer needs.


Responsibilities


  • Develop, sustain, and optimize CNC machining processes, tooling, and equipment for silicon and brittle materials.

  • Provide expertise in critical manufacturing processes, including grinding and advanced CNC machining operations.

  • Use SPC and data‑driven methods to stabilize processes, elevate capability, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead root cause analysis, DOEs, and measurement‑based investigations; convert data into clear, actionable plans.

  • Maintain and update FMEAs for assigned equipment and processes.

  • Author technical documentation including operating procedures, work instructions, and test plans.

  • Apply Lean manufacturing and problem‑solving methodologies.

  • Be knowledgeable in CNC programming (G/M‑code) to support equipment.

  • Support equipment performance improvement and capability enhancement across functional groups.

  • Lead projects from initiation through closure while managing multiple priorities.

  • Support new and existing product development from a technical perspective.

  • Provide cross‑functional collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance to improve quality, delivery, and cost.

  • Serve as a technical problem solver, driving improvements that enhance safety, reduce scrap, and improve process robustness.

  • Exhibit self‑driven, confident, and accountable professional characteristics with strong self‑awareness.

  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively with strong attention to detail.

  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and proactively across teams and organizational levels.


Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline plus 2–3 years experience; or 10+ years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably machining or precision CNC operations and problem‑solving experience.

  • Technical Skills: Comprehensive understanding of shop operations and manufacturing processes; proficient interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T; experience with Lean/6‑Sigma problem‑solving methods; ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities; proficient with MS Office Suite.

  • Team & Communication Skills: Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills; demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships and excel within cross‑functional teams.
