Job summary

Waupaca Foundry is seeking a quality supervisor/engineer to establish and maintain a safe, productive area while driving continuous improvement in our foundry operations. You will translate senior management goals into actionable targets for the workforce and manage process improvements across APQP/PPAP and quality systems.

Responsibilities include defect analysis, problem-solving using 8D and Six Sigma, and collaboration with the quality department on customer quality concerns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent is required.
• Experience with Six Sigma, 8D, and APQP/PPAP is expected.
• Strong leadership and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Understand foundry/casting process and defect analysis.
• Lead continuous quality and process improvement initiatives.
• Apply problem-solving tools to drive root cause analysis.
• Coordinate with quality dept on customer quality concerns and corrective actions.
• Support APQP/PPAP activities and process validations.
• Drive reductions in scrap and rework through data-driven decisions.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/TS procedures and internal policies.
• Create and maintain production department processes and work instructions.
• Collaborate with vendors on sampling and new product introductions.
• Plan and facilitate team meetings and briefings on quality topics.

Role

Establish and maintain a safe working area. Continuously and effectively communicates the established and evolving goals & objectives of senior management to the workforce. Reduce cost/waste if/when possible. Be knowledgeable of internal and external pertinent procedures and customer requirements. Maintain employee scheduling in department. Involved in quality/process improvement projects tools and techniques ensuring conformance with organization quality standards. Evaluates quality assurance process sampling systems, procedures and statistical techniques. Responsible for all process improvement issues related to products and services used in the Quoting Process, Sampling Systems and APQP/PPAP process. Manage continuous improvement process by identifying and quantifying problems and translating them into solutions to reduce operating costs and increase efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Must understand foundry/casting process along with defect analysis.


• Ability to demonstrate problems identification and resolution.


• Must be able to promote continuous quality and process improvement.


• Must be able to have problem-solving tools including 8D, Six Sigma, Red “X”, APQP requirements.


• Must be able to work with the quality department on customer quality concerns and address root cause.


• Must be able to address internal quality concerns such as internal scrap and salvage.


• DWI’s, CS’s, QP’s, ISO/TS procedures and policies.


• Continuous improvement and quality improvement.


• Provide a safe work environment and enforce safety policies within department.


• Defect reduction and product improvement.


• Knowledge and exposure to all production operations.


• Working knowledge of Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, and FMEA’s.


• Must have working knowledge of process development for the Coreroom, VMM, and Millroom.


• Must be able to do data mining to determine root cause for scrap or salvage issues.


• Create and maintain processes for all of the production departments.


• Must be able to work with vendors on new products for sampling.


• Capability to lead individuals by possessing and demonstrating leadership including conflict resolutions, teamwork, positive attitude, dependable, fair, and ethical treatment of employees. Must be a self-starter, have initiative, organized, adaptable, and open minded. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. In accordance with company goals must adhere to high standards of performance and assign tasks that encourage growth to team members. Must be able to plan and organize and facilitate team meetings and short presentations when applicable.


• Education/Experience Requirements:


• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.


• Must have working knowledge of computer & quality related programs.


• Must have working knowledge of quality trouble shooting techniques.


• Must participate in all in-house training offered for supervisor level position.


• Must have working knowledge of overall foundry procedures and practices.

Travel Requirements

• Need to be shift mobile along with ability to travel to other plants if needed or requested.
