Job summary

IPG Photonics in Marlborough, MA, is seeking a Process Development Engineer to help develop, optimize, and qualify advanced optoelectronic components used in fiber lasers and amplifiers.

You will work with design, materials and manufacturing engineering teams to implement improved processes, analyze data with DOE/SPC, and transition successful processes to volume production while ensuring quality and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
• Experience in optoelectronics and/or semiconductor packaging.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor laser physics.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist technical personnel with troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing stations and production equipment.
• Maintain control charts, calibration procedures and SOPs to support production flow.
• Participate in design and implementation of improved processes tailored for high-power optoelectronic components.
• Evaluate and suggest equipment, materials, techniques to meet thermal, optical, electrical, and mechanical requirements for process under development.
• Analyze failure modes and drive corrective actions to improve process robustness and yield.
• Work closely with design, materials, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure process compatibility with product requirements.
• Support transition of developed processes to volume production, including documentation, training, and troubleshooting.
• Use statistical tools (e.g., DOE, SPC) to analyze process data and drive continuous improvement.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to the engineering team and external partners.
