Job summary

Innophos in North Salt Lake, UT is seeking a Process Engineer to support Operations with process optimization, batch formulation adjustments, and rework coordination to convert off-spec material into saleable product.

You will lead continuous improvement projects, perform feasibility studies, ensure safety and environmental compliance, and collaborate with R&D, manufacturing and marketing to reduce costs and increase capacity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2–3 years of Lean Manufacturing / Lean Six Sigma / TPS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for process optimization, troubleshooting and capital projects with structured project management.
  • Input to business units for process improvements, R&D programs, capital plans and strategic decisions.
  • Develop workable process solutions to meet capacity, cost, quality and safety goals.
  • Maintain safe, environmentally sound operations and uphold food safety and product quality through process design.
  • Support safety and environmental initiatives and promote proactive risk reduction.
  • Demonstrate management commitment to safety.

Job description

The Process Engineer provides crucial troubleshooting assistance to Operations (batch formulation adjustments, process optimization, process flow, etc.). The engineer manages off-spec production, participates in the development of rework procedures and coordinates the rework through production to convert to saleable product. The engineer initiates, develops and helps implement projects to improve safety, improve quality, increase capacity, lower costs, evaluate new technologies, evaluate new raw materials, and/or generate new business. This includes studying existing and new processes to help identify and implement improvement opportunities. The process engineer also develops engineering studies (order‑of‑magnitude estimates, feasibility studies, etc.) to support business decisions. The engineer also helps lead the Continuous Improvement effort in the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to the NSL Operation, including conceptualization of capital projects, troubleshooting, training, management and/or providing support of process changes (MOC) and implementation of the specified solutions. Maintain the documentation of procedures associated with the manufacture of NSL products. As a rule, a structured project management approach will be used.
  • Provide technical input to the business, manufacturing, R&D, and marketing organizations in support of process improvement efforts, R&D programs, capital plans, and business plans. Consolidate company intelligence on competitor technology.
  • Develop and/or assist others in developing workable process solutions to meet the requirements of the business (e.g., increased capacity, new product development, reduced costs, improved quality, improved process safety, improved environmental impact). Investigate, research, assess, evaluate, and/or propose ideas for new or modified processes and products. Clarify process issues early in the project life to minimize resource utilization and development costs. As a rule, the Process Engineer will use a structured approach in his/her role as a process developer.
  • Maintain safe and environmentally sound operation of units through periodic safety meetings, encourage reporting of all incidents, investigation, and corrective actions proposal for all incidents, as well as ensuring that no major environmental incidents occur via proper inspections. Help ensure food safety and product quality through the proper design of manufacturing processes.
  • Follows all environmental, health and safety protocols.
  • Provides support for all safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Proactively attempts to prevent all accidents and eliminate all unsafe conditions.
  • Demonstrates management’s commitment to safety.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in the chemical industry preferred.
  • 2–3 years of experience with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma, TPS, or similar methodologies preferred.
