We are seeking an experienced Assembly Process Engineer to support the assembly and integration of large, highly complex mechanical systems in a cutting-edge manufacturing and engineering environment.
This role will focus on developing assembly plans, creating detailed work instructions, supporting installation and integration activities, and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable assembly processes. The ideal candidate will have experience translating complex engineering designs into practical, executable assembly procedures for technicians and production personnel.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, collaborating across disciplines, and supporting large-scale precision assembly projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed assembly plans, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation for complex mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
- Define assembly sequences, tooling requirements, personnel needs, safety considerations, and installation methods.
- Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and test engineers to ensure assembly processes align with engineering intent.
- Create and maintain comprehensive work instruction packages for use by assembly technicians and field personnel.
- Plan and document handling, movement, positioning, alignment, and installation of large mechanical components.
- Evaluate assembly access, tooling access, ergonomics, safety considerations, and workspace constraints.
- Support implementation of part traceability and documentation requirements through ERP, MES, and manufacturing management systems.
- Troubleshoot assembly challenges, non-conformances, and integration issues while driving effective corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain assembly work orders, manufacturing procedures, and process documentation.
- Improve standardization, safety, efficiency, and quality within assembly operations.
- Work directly with engineers, planners, coordinators, technicians, and field assembly teams during build and installation activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing assembly risk, improving productivity, and enhancing quality.
- Support mechanical testing and integration activities, including leak testing, pressure testing, and functional verification processes.
- Assist with planning and execution of large-component handling and installation activities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting the assembly, integration, installation, or manufacturing of large-scale mechanical systems.
- Experience developing technical work instructions, assembly procedures, manufacturing documentation, or work packages.
- Strong understanding of mechanical assembly principles and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong communication, technical writing, and documentation skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to make data‑driven decisions.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
- Experience working directly with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with large, complex mechanical assemblies and precision‑engineered systems.
- Experience using Siemens NX or similar CAD software.
- Experience with ERP, MES, or manufacturing execution systems.
- Experience with metrology, precision alignment, or dimensional verification.
- Experience supporting high‑vacuum systems or vacuum‑related equipment.
- Experience developing manufacturing standards, assembly procedures, and process documentation.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience planning or supporting lifts and movement of large components.
- Experience in aerospace, nuclear, energy, industrial equipment, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, vacuum systems, or related industries.
