Job summary

IQE, a leading compound semiconductor materials company, seeks a senior MBE Process Engineer in the United States. You will oversee efficient and cost-effective MBE reactor operations, drive process improvements, and ensure material quality to meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities include designing epitaxial growth experiments, correlating growth with characterization data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize yields and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Advanced experience in Process Engineering or equivalent manufacturing field.
  • 7+ years experience in Process Engineering or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or knowledge is desirable.
  • Reactor (MBE) process knowledge.
  • Must have experience with SPC and recipe editing. Experience with reactor maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct epitaxial growth experiments, interpret results and analyze IQE/customer data.
  • Correlate growth processes with characterization data (Photoluminescence, XRD, Hall Effect).
  • Tune growth process for highest quality epi-wafers meeting customer specs.
  • Coordinate orders with Planning, Production, maintenance, and characterization teams.
  • Own reactor/product and report on order execution.
  • Carry out Continuous Improvement Projects to increase yield, improve efficiency, and reduce variability.
  • Perform First Article Review for New Product Introduction.
  • Develop growth recipes and optimize epitaxy parameters to meet specs.
  • Engage with customers and research institutions on epitaxy and material development.
  • Assist Management in establishing specs for new epitaxy products/equipment; collaborate with vendors on installation and validation.
  • Prepare technical proposals and progress reports for external collaborators and customers.
  • Ensure epitaxy reactors are operated safely, reliably, and cost-effectively.
  • Review/interpret growth data, identify trends, and direct process adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot material and process issues with maintenance to minimize downtime.

About the role

The MBE Process Engineer is responsible for efficient and cost-effective process implementation and day-to-day engineering supervision of all assigned MBE reactors. They will provide engineering support for the MBE process and are responsible for material quality in order to minimize wafer loss and ensure all delivered material meets or exceeds customer expectations. The MBE engineer is responsible for planning, directing and implementing the technical aspects of process improvement, research and development programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experiments in epitaxial growth (epitaxy), provide technical input, interpret results, and perform detailed analysis of IQE and customer process data. (MBE Experience preferred)
  • Use characterization data from Photoluminescence, XRD, Hall Effect, to correlate with growth process
  • Ensure the growth process is tuned for achieving highest quality epi-wafers that meet all customer specifications
  • Coordinate executing orders with other departments – Planning, Production, maintenance, characterization teams
  • Take ownership of the reactor/product and periodically report on order execution
  • Carry out Continuous Improvement Projects to align with company goals – Increase Yield, Improve Efficiency, Reduce Variability
  • Conduct First Article Review of incoming designs as part of New Product Introduction
  • Apply advanced knowledge of epitaxy processes, including setting growth parameters, developing growth recipes, and optimizing material performance to meet product and customer specifications.
  • Engage with customers and research institutions on technical matters related to epitaxy, materials development, and process optimization.
  • Assist Engineering Management in establishing specifications for new epitaxy products and equipment, and collaborate with vendors on installation, qualification, and process validation of new systems.
  • Prepare technical proposals and progress reports with a high level of proficiency for direct submission to external collaborators, customers, and research partners.
  • Ensure assigned epitaxy reactors are operated in a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient manner consistent with operational and business objectives.
  • Review and interpret growth and characterization data, identify trends, and direct process adjustments in accordance with standard operating procedures and product specifications.
  • Troubleshoot material and epitaxy-related process issues and work closely with maintenance personnel to diagnose equipment problems and facilitate efficient repairs and minimal downtime.

  • Qualification or 2-Year/Associate’s technical degree in Engineering or equivalent, physics, materials science, or related technical field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
