Job summary

Conn Selmer, Inc. is seeking a Process Engineer to reduce manufacturing costs while increasing productivity.

You will implement optimized processes under the Engineering Manager and develop LEAN workflows and fixture design to improve quality and efficiency. Candidates should have a mechanical or industrial engineering background, hands-on experience with fixtures, SolidWorks, and ERP systems; familiarity with standard operating procedures, operational control plans, and Six Sigma.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or 8 years of equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze takt times and improve efficiency.
• Experience designing fixtures and tooling for manufacturing effectiveness.
• Lean and Six Sigma methods applied to production environments.

Responsibilities

• Determine operations required to process products and meet quality, cost, and efficiency targets.
• Analyze production processes, tooling, and equipment for capacity and performance.
• Develop LEAN work cells and material flow; participate in Kaizen efforts.
• Drive cost reductions through process improvements and ROI analysis.
• Collaborate with Quality to eliminate root causes and train operators.
• Design, maintain, and improve processes to optimize cost and quality.
• Review BOMs and routings for material and labor costs.
• Plan efficient production workflows using engineered time standards.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

The Process Engineer will support the reduction of manufacturing cost while increasing productivity using developed manufacturing skills under the direction of the Engineering Manager. Implement and control optimized manufacturing processes to ensure consistent productivity.

Responsibilities

• Determine operations required to procedure products and develop processes to ensure quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met
• Analyze production processes, procedures, tooling and equipment to determine capacity to perform at required level
• Develop and implement LEAN work cells and material flow
• Actively participate in Kaizen support efforts
• Process improvements that result in realized cost savings
• Provide expertise in areas of machining, material flow and process flow
• Develop innovative ideas and alternative methods to be cost competitive
• Construct RFE’s with ROI
• Assist with value stream mapping and utilization calculations
• Calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and drive gains
• Work with Quality to determine, eliminate and sustain root cause
• Work with Quality to train operators on new processes or equipment
• Tooling and fixture design
• Design, maintain & improve manufacturing processes to optimize quality & efficiency while reducing cost
• Review, calculate & maintain material & labor cost for BOMs & routings
• Analyze & plan efficient production workflow utilizing best practice methods & engineered time standards
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• 4-year Engineering degree (mechanical or industrial) or 8 years of Engineering experience as a process or manufacturing engineer without degree
• 1-5 years experience in manufacturing preferably in metal fabrication, wood fabrication or machining intense environment
• Demonstrated ability to analyzing Takt times for improved efficiency and utilization
• Mechanical acumen (hands-on knowledge of mechanics)
• Experience designing and developing fixtures and tooling for manufacturing effectiveness
• SolidWorks experience
• Tooling experience
• Understand of Dynamics-365 ERP system a plus
• Concept of Standard Operating Procedures & Operational Control Plans
• Strong communication skills, written and oral
• Proven experience in LEAN and Six Sigma techniques and practices
• CNC experience a plus
• Music Experience a plus
• Ability to lift 40 pounds
• Requires periods of sedentary work, daily standing and walking on shop floor
• Requires repetitive upper body movement – keyboard and monitor use
• Visual and hearing acuity
