Sterling Engineering in Elgin, IL is seeking a Process Engineer to support manufacturing processes, metallurgical operations, and continuous improvement within a specialty metals environment.

You will provide technical support to production, customers, suppliers and internal teams, develop efficient processes, and help ensure materials meet customer and industry requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or related field.
  • Experience in AS9100 and NADCAP environments.
  • Metals processing experience with Ni, Ti, and/or Co materials.
  • Knowledge of thermal processing and metal forming.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Review customer specs to determine capabilities.
  • Provide metallurgical support to teams and customers.
  • Troubleshoot process issues to ensure material meets specs.
  • Investigate nonconforming material and root causes.
  • Support continuous improvement and optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Production and Maintenance to improve equipment utilization.
  • Monitor pyrometry standards for production furnaces.
  • Support capital projects and new product development.
  • Develop and manage trial processes for new products.
  • Perform metallographic analysis and SPC as needed.
  • Provide technical support to suppliers.

Job description

We are seeking a Process Engineer to support manufacturing processes, metallurgical operations, and continuous improvement within a specialty metals manufacturing environment. This role will provide technical support to production, customers, suppliers, and internal teams while developing and maintaining efficient processes that meet customer and industry requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Establish, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Review customer requirements and specifications to determine manufacturing capabilities.
  • Provide technical and metallurgical support to customers and internal teams.
  • Support production by troubleshooting process issues and ensuring material meets requirements.
  • Investigate nonconforming material, customer complaints, and root causes, implementing corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
  • Work with Production and Maintenance to improve equipment utilization and material routing.
  • Monitor and maintain pyrometry standards for production furnaces.
  • Support capital projects and new product development initiatives.
  • Develop and manage trial processes for new customer products.
  • Perform metallographic analysis and statistical process monitoring as needed.
  • Provide technical support to raw material and outside processing suppliers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering/Science, or related field.
  • Experience working in an AS9100 and NADCAP certified environment.
  • Metals processing experience required.
  • Experience working with Nickel, Titanium, and/or Cobalt materials required.
  • Knowledge of thermal processing, cold working, and metal processing.
  • Experience with process optimization and statistical methods.
