Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in engineering/tech fields.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Two or more years in process control, automation, instrumentation, or controls engineering roles.
  • Experience with DeltaV DCS systems and related control platforms (qualifications for the role).

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot process and control system issues with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Lead and support process improvement and capital projects from concept through startup.
  • Define project scope, develop technical requirements, and manage project execution.
  • Design, implement, and support process control systems, instrumentation, and automation solutions.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, electrical drawings, and control system documentation.
  • Specify and procure field instrumentation and control valves for projects.
  • Collaborate with designers to develop electrical, loop, and I/O drawings.
  • Oversee construction activities, bid package development, and field commissioning.
  • Support startup, checkout, and optimization of control systems.
  • Develop knowledge of advanced process control concepts and tuning.
  • Work with Emerson DeltaV DCS and Valmet QCS platforms.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to stakeholders.

Your Job

Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products division is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to join our Engineering Team at the Green Bay Broadway Mill in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

In this role, you will collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and process control subject matter experts to support and improve manufacturing performance through the application of advanced control systems, instrumentation, and automation technologies. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and support of process control systems and field instrumentation that drive operational excellence, reliability, safety, and productivity.

This position offers the opportunity to work with industry-leading technologies including Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Valmet Quality Control Systems (QCS), field instrumentation, and control valves, while contributing to capital projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and long-term operational sustainability.

Our Process Controls team is focused on improving safety, reliability, and performance through innovative automation and control solutions. In this role, you'll collaborate with experienced engineers and operations partners, contribute to high-impact improvement projects, and help drive continuous innovation in a world-class manufacturing environment.

What You Will Do
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to troubleshoot process and control system issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Lead and support process improvement and capital projects from concept through startup.
  • Define project scope, develop technical requirements, and manage project execution.
  • Design, implement, and support process control systems, instrumentation, and automation solutions.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, electrical drawings, and control system documentation.
  • Specify and procure field instrumentation, analyzers, and control valves for projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Collaborate with designers to develop electrical, loop, and I/O drawings.
  • Manage construction activities, including bid package development, contractor coordination, installation oversight, and field commissioning.
  • Support startup, checkout, and optimization of new and existing control systems.
  • Develop knowledge of advanced process control concepts, control loop tuning, and emerging automation technologies.
  • Work with Emerson DeltaV DCS and Valmet QCS platforms to support manufacturing operations and project implementation.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Associate's Degree, Technical Degree, Vocational Degree, or higher in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in pulp and paper manufacturing or other continuous process industries.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a process control, automation, instrumentation, or controls engineering role.
  • Two (2) or more years of hands‑on experience supporting Emerson DeltaV DCS systems, including configuration, troubleshooting, modifications, and system expansions.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, OPC, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation, control valve applications, and control loop optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems and manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills.
