Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Process Control Systems Engineer to provide engineering support for Baton Rouge/Geismar facilities. You will operate and improve DCS/PLC control systems, implement changes to enhance safety and operability, and perform root cause analyses with automation vendors.

The role requires 5+ years in process automation/instrumentation, knowledge of DCS/PLC, and familiarity with cybersecurity and SIS.

Qualifications

• Requires engineering degree and 5+ years in process automation and/or instrumentation.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable personal vehicle access.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
• Hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC).
• Experience with Siemens PCS7 or ABB 800xA preferred.
• Knowledge of field instrumentation (valves, transmitters).
• Proficiency with level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement concepts.
• Foundational understanding of computer networks.
• General knowledge of cybersecurity as it relates to ICS.
• General knowledge of safety instrumented systems for mechanical integrity.
• Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Team-oriented with ability to present complex topics to varied audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide process control systems engineering support for production facilities in the Baton Rouge/Geismar, LA region.
• Support daily operation of control systems within overall facility operations.
• Build and implement changes to improve safety and operability.
• Conduct root cause analyses with automation vendors.
• Identify, complete, and support improvement projects related to DCS and SIS.
• Plan lifecycle support for control systems including programming, preventive maintenance, and upgrade migrations.
• Address instrumentation and automation system obsolescence.
• Implement changes to control logic, HMI, and databases, and document those changes.
• Align with local I&E technicians and provide support for instrument-related activities.
• Improve and optimize existing assets; drive plant reliability, cybersecurity, and cost reduction.
• Meet organizational safety goals.
• Collaborate with regional process controls engineers, plant process engineers, area managers, site supervisors, and operating staff.
• Support hydrogen-related facilities and associated pipeline assets.

Job description

• Provide process control systems engineering support for production facilities in the Baton Rouge / Geismar, Louisiana region
• Support daily operation of control systems within overall facility operations
• Build and implement changes to improve safety and operability
• Conduct root cause analyses internally and with automation vendors
• Identify, complete, and support improvement projects related to DCS and SIS systems
• Plan and provide lifecycle support for control systems, including programming, preventive maintenance, and upgrade migrations
• Address instrumentation and automation system obsolescence
• Implement changes to control logic, HMI, and databases, and document those changes
• Align with local I&E technicians and provide support and leadership for instrument-related activities
• Improve and optimize existing assets
• Drive improvements in plant reliability, cybersecurity, and cost reduction
• Meet organizational safety goals
• Work closely with regional process controls engineers, plant process engineers, area managers, site supervisors, and operating staff
• Support facilities including steam methane reformers producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, satellite offgas purification facilities, and hydrogen pipeline assets

Requirements

• Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to access and safely operate a reliable personal vehicle on an ongoing basis
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (e.g. temporary work visa or work permit)
• Hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC)
• Experience with Siemens PCS7 or ABB 800xA preferred
• Knowledge of field instrumentation, including valves and transmitters
• Proficiency and experience with level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement concepts
• Foundational understanding of computer networks
• General knowledge of cybersecurity as relates to industrial control systems
• General knowledge of safety instrumented systems as applicable to mechanical integrity
