Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Automation Engineer to design, develop, and support industrial automation and control systems across Gulf Coast projects. You will program Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, configure AVEVA/HMI/SCADA solutions, and help ensure SIS/FH safety during commissioning and startup.

Travel to client sites is required; candidates should bring strong hands-on PLC/HMI experience, plus a background in Oil & Gas or Petrochemical environments.

Qualifications

• 7-15 years of experience in Automation, Industrial Controls, Instrumentation, or related disciplines.
• Strong hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLCs.
• Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs.
• Strong hands-on experience with HMI and SCADA platforms.
• Strong knowledge of industrial networking and communications.
• Willingness to travel to client sites and perform field execution.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure, and troubleshoot industrial automation and control systems.

Job description

• Design, develop, configure, and troubleshoot industrial automation and control systems
• Program and support PLC systems using Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) and Siemens platforms
• Configure and support HMI and SCADA systems, including AVEVA solutions
• Develop control narratives, I/O lists, instrument specifications, loop drawings, and control system documentation
• Participate in LOPA and functional safety reviews
• Support Safety Instrumented System (SIS) design, implementation, and testing for SIL 1, SIL 2, and SIL 3 applications
• Perform system integration, FATs, SATs, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities
• Support brownfield and greenfield automation projects
• Travel to operating facilities and project sites across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and surrounding Gulf Coast regions
• Work collaboratively with operations personnel, maintenance teams, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams
• Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, process efficiency, safety, and operational performance

Requirements

• 7-15 years of experience in Automation, Industrial Controls, Instrumentation, PLC Programming, Control Systems, or related disciplines

• Experience in Oil & Gas, Midstream, LNG, Pipeline, Petrochemical, Industrial Manufacturing, or related industries
• Working knowledge of Functional Safety
• Working knowledge of LOPA studies
• Working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
• Working knowledge of SIL 1, SIL 2, and SIL 3 applications
• Experience supporting commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and field execution activities
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in client-facing environments
• Ability and willingness to travel to client sites as required
• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred)
• Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), EIT, or equivalent professional designation (preferred)
• TÜV Functional Safety certification is an asset
• Experience with AVEVA, Wonderware, FactoryTalk, WinCC, Ignition, or similar platforms (preferred)
• Previous EPC/EPCM project experience (preferred)
• Experience supporting both operations and project execution environments (preferred)
