Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Senior Control Systems Engineer in Pasadena, TX to mentor Bayport POTBA CSEs and lead sitewide control initiatives. You will drive BPCS/SIS/APC/PCN reliability, coordinate with operations and maintenance, and push continuous improvements in safety and performance.

Must have strong leadership, process safety expertise, and experience with DCS/SIS systems and related software to deliver on strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines acceptable with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 7 years in petrochemical/refining plant processes with control engineering background.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and coaching abilities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional engineering and specialist teams to implement programs.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to CSE engineers and specialists.
  • Lead sitewide control systems initiatives aligning with asset strategy.
  • Maintain accountability for sitewide control systems including BPCS, SIS, APC, and PCN.
  • Drive continuous improvement and performance against metrics and benchmarks for APC, DCS, alarm management.

Job description

  • Mentor, direct, and provide technical guidance to Bayport POTBA Control Systems Engineers and Specialists
  • Lead sitewide control systems engineering initiatives and assignments supporting the asset strategy and business objectives
  • Maintain accountability for sitewide control systems, including BPCS, SIS, APC, and PCN
  • Lead the CSE team to deliver site business results and drive continuous improvement
  • Align team performance with corporate and site goals, policies, and procedures
  • Establish team strategy and drive performance against metrics and industry benchmarks for APC, DCS, alarm management, and other site initiatives
  • Set goals and develop team members through observation, coaching, feedback, and development plans
  • Develop and manage the group’s fixed-cost budget and support capital long-range planning
  • Champion operational and process safety excellence and coordinate participation in incident investigations, PHAs, MOCs, turnarounds, and audits
  • Engage with technical networks, Technical Knowledge Management, corporate functions, industry organizations, vendors, and suppliers
  • Partner with operations, reliability, and maintenance to improve unit optimization, process safety, reliability, and maintenance execution
  • Drive revenue enhancement through controls, automation, and advanced process control strategies
  • Reduce Lost Profit Opportunities, close performance gaps, and support profit-generating projects including the Value Enhancement Program
  • Assess control-system risks and oversee mitigation strategies and long-range plans, including cybersecurity and equipment-obsolescence risks
  • Provide troubleshooting, problem-solving, and backup operational support as needed
Requirements
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering preferred; B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering acceptable with sufficient work experience in Process Controls, Process and/or Production Engineering
  • Typically, a minimum of 7 years’ experience in petrochemical and/or refining plant processes, with background in Process and/or Production Engineering or Process Controls Engineering
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, self-motivation, and initiative
  • Ability to manage the performance of technical employees at varying levels of experience
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and management skills
  • Ability to lead a combined engineering and specialist team and drive technical programs and projects to successful implementation
  • Ability to identify and leverage employees’ strengths and development opportunities
  • Innovative thinking to solve complex issues
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate broadly
  • Process automation computing
  • Technical understanding of unit processes
  • Microsoft Office Suite capability
  • Knowledge of controls and engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management, including PHAs, HAZOP analysis, MOC, and PSSR
  • Working knowledge of SIS theory
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to coordinate and manage personnel to complete assignments on time, within budget, and within scope
  • Experience with DCS and SIS logic solvers and supporting infrastructure preferred
  • Honeywell TDC3000 and Experion experience preferred
  • Schneider Electric Triconex and Foxboro experience preferred
