Job description

The estimated base salary range for this role is $36.58 - $44.28 per hour.

Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors.

About the Role

Tectum, a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries and one of eleven North American plants, is looking for a Process Control Technician to join our Maintenance team in Newark, OH. With over 70 years of experience, Tectum produces wall, roof, and ceiling tiles. The primary purpose of this role is to troubleshoot and maintain controls, components, and systems for production and utility equipment to ensure high reliability, proper line performance, and safe operation. This includes training other Controls Technicians, coordinating electrical PM programs, and making complex changes in PLC, HMI, and AC Drives.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Observe OSHA and company safety rules, use safety equipment, notify supervisors of hazards, and follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
  2. Troubleshoot machine breakdowns using tools like electrical schematics, meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  3. Train and assist technicians in troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electrical sensing devices and control devices.
  4. Make complex program modifications in PLCs and HMIs to improve equipment performance and work with engineers on SCADA systems.
  5. Coordinate electrical preventive maintenance, scheduling inspections and replacements.
  6. Manage PLC and HMI programs and ensure electrical documentation is accurate and updated.
  7. Assist production and engineering teams with daily priorities and projects.
  8. Support machine installations and upgrades, interfacing auxiliary equipment, and ensuring vendor compliance.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Associate Degree in electronics, computer science, or related field plus 5 years of industrial electrical experience, or equivalent (5-10 years).
  • Proficiency in controls programming software, email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and electrical theory knowledge.
  • Strong PLC hardware/software skills, including programming and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of product specs, quality, efficiency, and waste impact.
  • Ability to work in a team, be self-sufficient, and motivated to upgrade legacy technology.
  • Journeyman electrician status is a plus.
