Job summary

MP Materials is seeking a Process Control Engineer to optimize and maintain control systems at our state-of-the-art rare earth facility. You will develop control strategies, improve process stability, and drive OPEX initiatives across the plant with hands-on automation focus.

You will work with process engineers, operations, and maintenance to identify opportunities, implement robust solutions, perform RCA, and support upgrades while ensuring system integrity and traceability.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or related field.
3+ years of experience in control/automation engineering within manufacturing or industrial operations.
Practical experience programming and troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems (Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC).

Responsibilities

Lead or support process control projects throughout the full lifecycle—from conceptual design to commissioning.
Develop, implement, and optimize APC strategies and regulatory control loops.
Maintain and enhance existing control systems infrastructure (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, instrumentation).
Program and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs using Rockwell and Siemens platforms.
Collaborate with process engineers, operations, and maintenance to identify control opportunities and implement automation solutions.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process upsets or control failures.
Manage control system backups, documentation, and revision control.
Support hardware and software upgrades, including BOMs and coordination with supply chain.
Contribute to control systems standardization and site documentation initiatives.
Assist with real‑time troubleshooting during operations.
