Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a skilled Procedural Coder to review, analyze, and code professional medical record documentation for diverse practices. The role supports a hybrid work model and requires experience in procedural/surgical coding, with preferred credentials and specialty knowledge.

Candidates should have documentation of appropriate coding credentials (RHIA/RHIT/CCS-P or CPC) and either an Associate's or Bachelor’s degree, with preference for Urology and Gynecology coding experience; HFMA

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with 4 years procedural/surgical coding experience (non‑Mayo) or 4 years non‑surgical Mayo Clinic coding experience.
  • OR Associate's Degree with 2 years procedural/surgical coding experience (non‑Mayo) or 2 years non‑surgical Mayo Clinic coding experience.
  • Clinic coding experience required;
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS‑P or CPC certification required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Preferred candidate will have procedural coding experience in Urology and Gynecology.
  • HFMA Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • HYBRID: This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of any Mayo Clinic campuses for on-site expectations based on business needs.
  • The Procedural Coder reviews, analyzes, and codes professional/physician medical record documentation to include, but not limited to, medical diagnostic and procedural information for various practices.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

OR

Associate's Degree and 2 years procedural/surgical coding experience (non‑Mayo) or 2 years non‑surgical Mayo Clinic coding experience

Clinic coding experience required;

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS‑P) or a coding credential of a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.

Bachelor's Degree preferred.

The preferred candidate will have professional procedural coding experience in Urology and Gynecology.

Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification Preferred.

  • Knowledge of professional/physician coding rules for specialized medical and surgical professionals. Experience with National Correct Coding Initiative edits (NCCI), National Coverage Determinations (NCD), Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), and Outpatient coding guidelines for official coding and reporting.
  • In‑depth knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, patient health record content and the medical record coding process.
  • Knowledge of principles of methods and techniques related to compliant healthcare billing/collections.
  • Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for services furnished in a teaching settings.
  • Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for provider based billing facilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a teleworking environment, to organize/prioritize work, exercise excellent communication skills, is attentive to detail, demonstrate follow through skills and maintain a positive attitude.
