Job summary

Emory Healthcare is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform patient care and observation duties in an outpatient setting under the supervision of licensed providers. The role includes vitals, limited medication administration, simple diagnostics, specimen collection, phlebotomy, sterilization, room maintenance, and basic administrative support.

Required: High School Diploma or GED, current AHA BLS, and CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA certification (preferred CMA or RMA).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• One year work experience preferred.
• Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
• Current CMA or RMA or CCMA or NCMA certification preferred/required.

Responsibilities

• Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.
• Performs routine and more complex medical assistant clinical duties including taking vital signs, administering medications per policy, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient care setting.
• Promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction.
• Assists in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.
• May perform administrative duties such as patient check-in/out and responding to patient requests.
• Maintains patients' charts and records data with proper identification, documentation, routing and confidentiality.
• Maintains a clean environment in compliance with Universal Precaution guidelines and safety standards.
• Orders, verifies, and stores unit supplies.
• Performs duties in accordance with Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards.
• May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
• Performs other related responsibilities as required.
