Job summary

Eaton County is seeking a probation officer to supervise probationers and ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions and bonds. The role includes conducting background investigations, pre-sentence interviews, and preparing reports to assist the Judge in sentencing.

You will administer breath tests and drug screens, refer clients to programs, and maintain records. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or related fields, with Michigan alcohol assessment

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, psychology, counseling or closely related area.
• Six months of experience in criminal justice in a counseling, caseworker or related capacity.
• Certified by the State of Michigan to conduct alcohol assessments.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Investigates the background of persons awaiting sentencing, including records review and interviews.
• Conducts pre-sentence interviews and bond reviews; administers breath tests and urine screens.
• Prepares pre-sentence reports with history, restitution recommendations, and court actions.
• Conducts intake procedures with new probationers and explains probation terms.
• Supervises probationers and monitors compliance with terms and conditions.
• Refers clients to community programs and maintains agency contacts for progress.
• Initiates probation violation/show cause proceedings and testifies in court as needed.
• Maintains probation records and compiles monthly caseload statistics in required systems.
