Job summary

The Montana Department of Corrections, Public Safety Division, is seeking Probation and Parole Officers to supervise 80–100 offenders, conduct pre-sentence investigations, and provide supervision and counseling to promote positive life changes. Officers collaborate with the criminal justice system and community resources to support rehabilitation and public safety.

Officers may work varying shifts, including nights/weekends, and travel up to 10% for training.

Qualifications

• Requires college degree in criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, or guidance and counseling.
• POST Basic Certification after training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy.
• Background screens will be conducted as part of the process.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-sentence investigations and make placement recommendations to the District Court and Parole Board.
• Supervise and counsel 80–100 offenders.
• Refer offenders to resources/programs using supervision standards and risk assessments.
• Investigate alleged probation/parole violations and pursue enforcement actions.
• Arrest and testify in district court and related hearings.
