Job summary

Montana Department of Corrections is seeking a Probation Parole Officer to supervise 80–100 offenders and conduct pre-sentence investigations with recommendations to the District Court and Parole Board. The role balances social work and law enforcement duties, requiring readiness for 24/7 call coverage and travel up to 10% for training and assignments.

You will work in the Public Safety Division, supporting rehabilitation and public safety goals across Montana.

Qualifications

• Probation and parole officers must have at least a college degree in a related field such as criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, or guidance and counseling and some formal training in behavioral sciences.
• Background screens such as criminal records checks and registries may be conducted during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and counsel 80–100 offenders.
• Conduct pre-sentence investigations and make placement recommendations to the District Court and Parole Board.
• Refer offenders to resources or programs and monitor progress for compliance.
• Investigate alleged violations of probation or parole and testify in court as needed.
• Possess or be eligible for a Montana driver’s license and be prepared for 24/7 call duties.
