Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia – Dept of Corrections is seeking a Probation Officer in Staunton to supervise adults on probation, parole, or post-release supervision and promote pro-social outcomes. You will use motivational interviewing and evidence-based practices to reduce recidivism while collaborating with providers and community partners.

The role requires strong writing and communication skills, with opportunities for career development within the Department and access to state retirement

Qualifications

• Experience in writing reports and communicating effectively

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision to adults under probation, parole, or post-release supervision
• Assess criminogenic and treatment needs using validated tools and develop case plans
• Use evidence-based practices to encourage positive change and accountability
• Partner with treatment providers, employers, and community organizations to connect individuals with services
• Conduct home and community visits as appropriate to supervision plans
• Prepare pre-sentence investigations, sentencing guidelines, and progress reports; testify in court
• Monitor compliance and take corrective action to protect public safety
