Job summary

The City of Hutchinson's Hutchinson Municipal Court seeks a Probation Officer to administer, monitor, and document Municipal Court probation and diversion cases in accordance with court orders and program policies. • Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience: One year in court, probation, diversion, corrections, law enforcement, case management, social services, or related field.
• Certifications/License: Ability to obtain CJIS access, NCIC limited access certification within six months of hire.

• Schedule and conduct initial probation and diversion appointments; explain program conditions, deadlines, payments, reporting expectations, and consequences of noncompliance.
• Develop and maintain case-management plans consistent with court orders, diversion agreements and program policies.
• Monitor compliance with conditions including restitution, fines and costs, community service, treatment, education programs, substance testing, and other court-ordered obligations.
• Schedule and conduct in-person, telephone, virtual, or electronic check-ins with defendants according to supervision standards.
• Verify completion of court-ordered requirements through receipts, provider reports, and other documentation.
• Identify barriers to compliance and provide referrals to community resources and services.
• Maintain professional relationships with judges, court staff, prosecutors, defense counsel, law enforcement, treatment providers, and community organizations.
• Document all contacts, compliance activities, payments, referrals, violations, and case actions in the court management system.
• Prepare case-status summaries and compliance reports for hearings or reviews.
• Assist with payment plans and monitoring of financial obligations.
• Maintain confidentiality of criminal-justice information and protected data.
• Apply policies consistently and communicate respectfully with participants.
• Participate in training and process-improvement efforts related to probation and case management.

The Probation Officer is responsible for administering, monitoring and documenting Municipal Court probation and diversion cases in accordance with court orders, diversion agreements and program policies. The position explains court-ordered conditions and diversion requirements; monitors compliance; coordinates referrals and services; maintains complete and accurate case records; and provides timely, fact-based status information to the Court. The work supports client accountability, consistent administration of programs, timely case disposition, and community safety.

A Day in the Life

• Schedule and conduct initial probation and diversion appointments to review and sign required paperwork; explain program conditions, deadlines, payment obligations, reporting expectations, and consequences of noncompliance.
• Develop and maintain case-management plans consistent with court orders, diversion agreements and program policies.
• Monitor compliance with conditions including restitution, fines and costs, community service, treatment, education programs, substance testing, no-contact provisions, license-related requirements, and other court-ordered obligations.
• Schedule and conduct in-person, telephone, virtual, or electronic check-ins with defendants according to established supervision standards.
• Verify completion of court-ordered and diversion requirements through receipts, provider reports, certificates, service logs, testing results, and other reliable documentation.
• Identify barriers to compliance and provide appropriate referrals to community resources, treatment providers, educational programs, and social-service agencies.
• Maintain professional working relationships with judges, court staff, prosecutors, defense counsel, law-enforcement agencies, treatment providers, community-service organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Document all material contacts, compliance activities, payments, referrals, violations, and case actions accurately and promptly in the court case-management system.
• Prepare case-status summaries, compliance reports, violation documentation, and other materials needed for court hearings or prosecutorial review.
• Recommend successful completion, discharge, dismissal, extension, modification, termination, revocation, or other case action within established authority and procedure.
• Assist with establishing payment plans and monitoring compliance with financial obligations.
• Maintain confidentiality of criminal-justice information, court records, personally identifiable information, and protected health or treatment information.
• Apply program policies consistently, communicate respectfully with all participants.
• Participate in training, policy development, and process-improvement efforts related to probation, diversion, and case management operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will need for success:

• Education - A high school diploma or GED is required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, behavioral science, public administration, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
• Experience - One year of experience in court, probation, diversion, corrections, law enforcement, case management, soical services, or a closely related field, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Certifications/License -Ability to obtain and maintain any required criminal-justice information-system access, certifications or training. NCIC limited access certification required within six months of hire.
