The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) invites applications for a Probation and Parole Supervisor – Juvenile at the Alexandria Regional Office. This role leads a team of juvenile probation and parole officers and is essential to supervising, rehabilitating, and reintegrating youth within the juvenile justice system.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the listed options.
• OR two years of experience plus a master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
• Successful completion of required juvenile services training.
• No disqualifying criminal history per state rules.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and evaluates staff, conducts case reviews, assigns work, and performs semiannual appraisals.
• Reviews service plans, leads staffings, and ensures delivery of services to youth and families.
• Holds conferences, submits reports, and coordinates staff meetings and communications.
• Identifies training needs and coordinates development programs.
• Provides in-field and courtroom support during arrests, transports, and crises; supports facilities as needed.
• Represents the office externally and liaises with media and community groups.

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law‑abiding citizens. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Probation and Parole Supervisor – Juvenile to lead a team of juvenile probation and parole officers. This role is critical to ensuring the effective supervision, rehabilitation, and reintegration of youth within the juvenile justice system. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to public safety and youth development.

A PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING CORE COMPETENCIES:

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the following:

• Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement
• Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply)
• Six years of full‑time experience in any field
• A bachelor's degree

OR

Two years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or a criminal justice field.

Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full‑time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Necessary Special Requirements

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

This position may require the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.

Successful completion of the Corrections Juvenile Services‑Agent Curriculum.

Job Duties

• Supervises and Evaluates Staff: Oversees assigned Probation and Parole Officers—Juvenile, conducts regular case reviews, determines work assignments, and performs semiannual performance appraisals.
• Coordinates Service Delivery: Reviews and approves service plans for juveniles, leads case staffings to determine appropriate treatment assignments, and ensures effective delivery of services to youth and families.
• Facilitates Communication and Reporting: Holds conferences with subordinates and the district manager, submits reports, and assists with planning staff meetings and internal communications.
• Leads Training and Development: Identifies staff training needs, plans and conducts development programs, and coordinates participation in agency‑wide training initiatives.
• Supports Field Operations and Crisis Response: Provides in‑field and courtroom support to officers during arrests, transports, and escape apprehensions; assists Secure Care Facilities as needed.
• Represents the Office Externally: Collaborates with juvenile justice officials and external agencies, acts as liaison with media and civic groups, and may serve as district manager when required.

Position‑Specific Details

Work Location: This vacancy is located at the Alexandria Regional Office in Alexandria, LA.

Appointment Type: Full‑time, Probational

Compensation: The Probation and Parole Supervisor - Juvenile has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $2,304.00 Biweekly ($28.80 hourly).

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c).
