Job summary

Monterey County is seeking full-time Probation Aides for multiple locations, including Juvenile Hall and Youth Center. Under supervision, you will provide technical support to Deputy Probation Officers, read court documents, and follow orders while working with responsive agencies and the public.

The role requires clerical experience, strong record-keeping, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse communities. Background checks and a California driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• One year of clerical or public service experience involving court terminology, clerical processes and public contact.
• Ability to read court documents and follow court orders.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Prepares reports and maintains records and statistics; inputs data using a computer.
• Relieves probation officers of drug testing responsibilities; oversees urine samples and maintains testing supplies.
• Assists officers in locating required reports (police, school, psychiatric).
• May transport probationers or deliver documents and materials.
• Conducts home confinement program orientations and explains related rules to probationers.
• Runs criminal investigation reports and DMV records checks on probationers.
• Monitors juvenile probationers' school attendance and informs parents of issues.
• Assists with basic casework, including reviewing and filing probation mail.
• Installs home monitoring equipment on probationers and trains them on connection to telephone.
