Alameda County Probation Department is hiring a Probation Aide to support probation officers and engage in supervised work with youth and adults within the criminal justice system. The role emphasizes learning through training and performing less technical tasks under supervision.
Qualified candidates will have two years of college study, one year of relevant experience, and must pass a background check. Willingness to work across multiple locations and varied schedules is required.
THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended.

The Alameda County Probation Department is an essential element of the County’s system of public protection and human services. The Department’s role is to reduce the impact of crime in the community by providing accurate, comprehensive and timely information and recommendations to the Courts, providing community-based sanctions and treatment for offenders, and working cooperatively with law enforcement agencies and community organizations with similar objectives. The Department provides a wide range of mandated and discretionary investigative, advisory, and supervisory services to adult and juvenile probationers pursuant to State law and the County Charter.

Under supervision, to receive training in and perform the less technical phases of probation investigation and supervision functions, to assist probation officers by relieving them of paraprofessional tasks; and to do related work as required.

Education: �
Completion of two (2) years of study (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) at an accredited college or university.�
AND
Experience: �
The equivalent of one year full-time experience working in a probation, delinquency prevention, detention, recreation with youth, rehabilitation, legal or related program. �

A thorough background investigation will be conducted on all prospective Probation Aides.
Must be willing to work all assignments locations and varied days of the week. � �

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required.� A good driving record according to DMV negligent operator guidelines and qualifications for automotive insurance is also required.

General understanding of the role of the probation officer in juvenile and criminal justice system.
Organize thoughts and make sound judgments.
Learn and receive training working with juveniles and adults who are involved in the criminal justice system.
