Job description

PRN Speech Language Pathology – Creighton Pediatric Therapy

Evaluates speech and language patients with known or suspected health conditions and performs therapeutic treatment procedures as indicated. Makes patient referrals to other health care agencies/disciplines as indicated. Feeding and swallowing experience encouraged but not required. Instructs patients and family members in individualized activity programs designed to maximize functional abilities. Completes timely and efficient documentation. Employee is also responsible for supporting the mission and goals of Creighton Pediatric Therapy.

Essential Functions:

  1. Evaluates and treats patients with speech and language related conditions.
  2. Uses computer programs to assist with administrative responsibilities related to clinical practice.
  3. Care coordination between a healthcare team related to patient care.

Education & Experience:

  1. Graduation from a speech language pathology education program is required.
  2. Three or more years of experience in pediatric speech language pathology therapy preferred.
  3. Experience in feeding and swallowing experience is encouraged, but not required.
  4. Display proficiency in the use of common speech language pathology therapy standardized assessments, an understanding of childhood development, and the use of intervention procedures.
  5. Completion of HIPAA and immunization requirements prior to patient care.
  6. Completion of NPI number and insurance plan credentialing prior to independent patient care required.
  7. Completion of background check and drug screen during the pre-employment process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests.
  2. Ability to resolve conflict amongst staff and to work collaboratively with clinic director, clinic assistant director, clinic manager, clinic staff (including other occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech pathologists), referring physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  3. Ability to concentrate and focus on projects.
  4. Possesses creative systems thinking to ensure operational efficiency.
  5. Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
  6. Self-control and stress tolerance in dealing with multiple requests and conflicting demands from multiple customers.
  7. Demonstrates clear verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills, especially in recording evaluations and patient progress notes.
  8. Functions effectively and efficiently under stress with frequent interruptions.
  9. Requires minimal sustained direction in carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities.
  10. Self-starting and self-motivating.
  11. Experience in clinical education and student learning within the clinical learning environment.
  12. Ability to work collaboratively with other therapy disciplines and co-treat/coordinate care as needed.
  13. Uses the clinic documentation system independently following training/orientation.

Licenses/Certifications:

  1. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice speech language pathology by the Nebraska State Department of Health is required.
  2. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
