Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking a PRN RN for the Operating Room. The role supports seven OR service lines, including general, orthopaedics, gynecology, robotics, ENT, neuro, and eye.

You will scrub and circulate across cases, provide patient education, and ensure patient safety before, during, and after procedures. The position offers flexible PRN shifts (6:00 AM–11:30 PM) with on-call requirements; requires valid RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 1–2 years of OR-related experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN)
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the AHA or Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within six months of hire
• One year of recent clinical experience for internal applicants
• Two years of recent clinical experience for external applicants
• BSN preferred
• OR nursing experience preferred
• Two years of OR experience preferred
• Experience with scrubbing in the OR preferred

Akron General’s Operating Room (O.R.) department has a team of dedicated caregivers that work collaboratively to provide the best possible care for their surgical patients. These caregivers are eager and excited to add an Experience Registered Nurse (RN) to their team. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. This RN will support all seven service lines within the Operating Room, including general, orthopaedics, gynecology, robotics, ENT, neuro and eye. Due to the complexities of these service lines, this role offers plenty of opportunities to learn with every interaction.

A PRN caregiver in this position works varying days between 6:00AM – 11:30PM, with on-call requirements. Working 48 hours per 6-week period will be required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Deliver professional nursing care in an operative setting to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
• Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies.
• Perform circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patient conditions and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.
• Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within six months of hire
• One year of recent related clinical experience for internal applicants
• Two years of recent related clinical experience for external applicants

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Operating Room (OR) nursing experience
• Two years of Operating Room (OR) experience
• Experience with scrubbing in the OR

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > 75 pounds periodically.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
