Cencora, located onsite in Clarinda, Iowa, seeks a Pharmacy Support professional to enable accurate order processing and compliant workflows. You will handle patient profiles, prescription data, and insurance interactions to support timely service.

Normal qualifications include a minimum of two years in ambulatory pharmacy support and a national certification as a pharmacy technician. State certifications may be acceptable if equivalent.

Qualifications

• Min. 2 years of ambulatory pharmacy support experience.
• Pharmacy technician certification required (PTCB or equivalent).
• State certification acceptable if equivalent to national standards.

Responsibilities

• Create patient profiles in the pharmacy information system.
• Enter prescription plan information for processing and adjudication.
• Enter new patient prescription information into the system.
• Address insurance and payment issues with providers, patients, and pharmacists.
• Participate in achieving Ambulatory Pharmacy goals and metrics.
• Retrieve and prepare meds for pharmacist review and verification.
• Prepare inventory reports for pharmacist review and purchasing.
• Submit and stock inventory as needed.
• Answer inbound calls and triage to appropriate staff.
• Review adjudicated claims for reimbursement accuracy; follow up if needed.
• Provide information for therapeutic consults with patients.
• Resolve plan and patient adjudication issues with Pharmacy Benefit Managers.

Summary of Role: Supports pharmacy service operations to enable accurate order processing, service continuity, and compliant workflow execution. Coordinates pharmacy support activities, documentation handling, and issue follow-up to improve timeliness, consistency, and operational reliability. Ensures pharmacy records, supply support, and service transactions align with established quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Contributes to future-ready pharmacy services through process support, workflow standardization, and effective coordination across operational activities.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system.
• Enters necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating patient’s prescriptions.
• Responsible for entering all new patient prescription information into the pharmacy information system.
• Addresses insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues as appropriate by communicating with insurance providers, patients and pharmacists.
• Participates in achieving business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy.
• Retrieves and prepares the medication for pharmacist review and verification.
• Prepares inventory reports for pharmacist review to purchase.
• Submits, receives, and places inventory in stock.
• Answers inbound telephone calls and triages calls as appropriate based upon the nature of the call to the appropriate staff.
• Assists with the reviews and handling of all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriateness of reimbursement, co-pay and related financials and, if needed, as directed, follows up all such claims deemed inappropriate.
• Assists Pharmacist by providing required information for therapeutic consults with patients.
• Intervenes with Pharmacy Benefit Manager Companies to resolve plan and patient specific adjudication issues.

Education

Normally requires a minimum of two (2) years directly related and progressively responsible ambulatory pharmacy experience; bachelor's degree program preferred. Pharmacy technician certification with a national technical certification organization, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other comparable national certification required. State pharmacy certification is acceptable if core competencies are equal to or better than national certification requirements.

Experience and Educational Requirements

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience required. 2+ years of experience in pharmacy support, healthcare operations, medication order support, inventory support, patient services, or a related field required.

Certififcation

Certification in pharmacy support, pharmacy technician practice, medication handling, inventory control, healthcare operations, or a related field preferred.
