Job summary

Value Apothecaries Inc in Reading, PA is seeking an onsite Pharmacy Technician for Reading Hospital Exeter Pharmacy. This full-time role supports a busy pharmacy open seven days a week with 8–10 hour shifts and rotating weekends/holidays. You will create patient profiles, process prescriptions, and assist with insurance and billing while delivering patient care and service. Bilingual Spanish is a plus and PA licensure is required.

  • PTCB certification or comparable national certification preferred.
  • PA Registered Pharmacy Technician license required.

Responsibilities

  • Create a patient profile in the pharmacy information system.

  • Enter necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating prescriptions.
  • Enter all new patient prescription information into the pharmacy information system.
  • Address insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues with providers and patients.

Job Details

This is an onsite Pharmacy Technician position for Reading Hospital Exeter Pharmacy, located at 4500 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA inside of Boscov’s. This is a full-time position supporting a pharmacy open 7 days per week. The schedule consists of 8 to 10-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.

A Pharmacy Technician in our organization is a positive, charismatic, team-oriented individual with a dedication to customer service and patient care. Someone who can manage competing priorities, is technology savvy, and has strong communication skills would be a good fit for this role.

This position is categorized as compliance critical and, as such, requires and is assigned specific responsibility for ensuring continual and proper compliance with all division, corporate and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system.
  • Communicates with patients, prescribers, and other staff to solve problems or answer questions.
  • Enters necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating patient’s prescriptions.
  • Responsible for entering all new patient prescription information into the pharmacy information system.
  • Addresses insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues as appropriate by communicating with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacists.
  • Participates in achieving business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy.
  • Retrieves and prepares the medication for pharmacist review and verification.
  • Submits/receives order and places inventory in stock.
  • Answers inbound telephone calls and triages calls as appropriate based upon the nature of the call to the appropriate staff.
  • Operates the point-of-sale system.
  • Assists with the review and handling of all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriateness of reimbursement, co-pay and related financials and, if needed, as directed, follows up all such claims deemed inappropriate.
  • Assists Pharmacist by providing required information for therapeutic consults with patients.
  • Intervenes with Pharmacy Benefit Manager companies to resolve plan and patient specific adjudication issues.
  • Actively participates by delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients as outlined by the concierge prescription and curbside programs.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education

Normally requires a minimum of two (2) years directly related and progressively responsible pharmacy experience. Pharmacy technician certification with a national technical certification organization, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other comparable national certification preferred. PA Registered Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician Trainee license is required. For further information, please consult the state board of Pharmacy.

  • Good analytical skills
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software for data analytics, reporting, and communication.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus!
