General Summary

Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for assessing patients, including developing, evaluating, and modifying the care plan. Provides care through therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, environment/technology, and collaboration with healthcare team members, according to established standards. Interprets and performs complex patient-care procedures specific to their area of expertise. Functions as a member of the Care Team and Support Team, accountable for teamwork to achieve patient outcomes as outlined in the pathway and plan of care. Patients served include all age groups (Infant through Older Adult).

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following describes the general nature and level of work performed by personnel in this classification. It is not an exhaustive list of all duties.

  1. Provides care for unit-specific and/or hospital-based patient populations; practices independently with strong knowledge and clinical skills; engages in advancing personal practice. Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice.
  2. Is accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during an episode of care. Responsible to peers for advancing group practice, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.
  3. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs. Acts as a clinical resource as needed.
  4. Participates in efforts to improve Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  5. Ensures compliance with standards and supports activities for regulatory adherence.
  6. Supports leadership and charge nurse decisions; serves as an effective primary coordinator as required.
  7. Models practice aligned with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care.
  8. Follows and supports AACN guidelines for a Healthy Work Environment (communication, collaboration, decision-making, recognition, leadership, staffing); participates as a team member focusing on these elements.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Safety

Ensures patient safety in job functions and through participation in safety initiatives. Takes action to correct observed risks, reports adverse events and near misses, and communicates potential risks to management.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Maryland RN licensure or eligibility due to Compact agreements.
  • Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year RN experience required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required upon hire.
  • Must meet all unit-specific certifications (PALS, ACLS, NRP).

Compensation

  • Pay Range: Flat rate of $38/hour.
