Job summary

Texas Oncology is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our patient care team. This role supports the Bastrop, Kyle, and San Marcos locations and requires availability of 0 to 19 hours per week, with a Monday–Friday schedule 8:00 am–5:00 pm and no weekends, calls, or major holidays.

Under minimal supervision, the RN delivers professional nursing care per standards and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support compliant practice. Level 1, 2, or Sr is determined by experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • RN license with current registration.
  • 0–3 years nursing experience; oncology preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care under minimal supervision.
  • Assess patient health status and provide teaching and psychosocial support.
  • Manage medication refill requests and document in patient chart.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests and coordinate with team.
  • Triage phone calls and document pertinent information.
  • Assist patients in locating community resources.
  • Serve as a resource to LPNs/LVNs and medical assistants.
  • Promote continuity of care across the care team.

Job description

Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Bastrop, Kyle, and San Marcos locations. It is scheduled to work 0 to 19 hours per week and requires a minimum availability of three days per month. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm with no weekends, call, or major holidays.

This position can be Level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

Under minimal supervision, the RN provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. The RN demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental differences in the patient population, including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and therapeutically manage patient/family needs and supports the US Oncology Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, and Business Standards.

What Does the PRN RN Do?

Responsibilities include providing professional nursing care, assessing patient health status, teaching and providing psychosocial support, managing medication refill requests, scheduling diagnostic tests, triaging phone calls, facilitating communication between patients/families and the interdisciplinary team, and assisting in locating community resources.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care.
  • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
  • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional material.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Manage patient medication refill requests and record information in the patient chart.
  • Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments.
  • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient chart.
  • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
  • Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
Qualifications

Level 1: Graduate from an accredited professional nursing education program (BSN preferred); RN state license and current registration; 0–3 years of nursing experience, preferably with at least one year in oncology; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Level 2 (in addition to Level 1): 3–5 years of nursing experience; oncology certification preferred.

Level Sr (in addition to Levels 1 & 2): Five years of nursing experience.

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination; requires standing and walking for extensive periods; occasionally lifts up to 40 lb.; requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
