Job summary

Texas Oncology is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to support the Bastrop, Kyle, and San Marcos locations. The role offers 0 to 19 hours per week with a minimum three days per month availability. Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with no weekends, call, or major holidays.

RNs will provide professional nursing care, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, and uphold compliance standards. Level 1, 2, or Sr will be determined by experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • RN license in practicing state with current registration.
  • 0–3 years nursing experience; oncology preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care.
  • Assess health status and medical history; provide teaching and materials.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care; manage medication refills and scheduling.
  • Coordinate tests, referrals, and future appointments; triage calls.
  • Act as a resource to LPNs/LVNs and medical assistants.

Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Bastrop, Kyle, and San Marcos locations. It is scheduled to work 0 to 19 hours per week and requires a minimum availability of three days per month. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am-5pm with no weekends, call, or major holidays. This PRN position can be level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the PRN RN do?

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards, including specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age‑specific differences in the patient population. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient and family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
    • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
    • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care.
    • Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
    • Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments for patients.
    • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient chart.
    • As necessary, facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
    • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
  • Interprofessional collaboration.
    • Act as a resource to LPNs/LVNs and medical assistants.
Qualifications
  • Level 1
    • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
    • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
    • 0–3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
    • 3–5 years nursing experience.
    • Oncology certification preferred.
  • Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements)
    • Five years nursing experience.

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
