Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a PRN GI Hospitalist APP to support inpatient and hospital rounding with physicians at UAB St. Vincent's East, Trussville, AL.

The role requires hospital-based clinical duties, on-site weekend availability, and collaboration within a large academic health system. Licensed Advanced Practice Nurses with a Master’s in Nursing, BLS certification, and Alabama Board of Nursing credentialing are required; DEA is preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS required within 30 days of hire.
• APN credentialing from the Alabama Board of Nursing required prior to hire.
• DEA credentialing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and treats patients using appropriate medical skills.
• Participates to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care.
• Accepts referrals and may admit, attend, or consult for hospitalized patients.
• Engages in academic activities such as medical education or research as requested.
• Documents in accordance with insurer requirements and appeals denials when needed.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultations, including on-call duties.

• Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East in Trussville, Alabama. 50 Medical Park Drive.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
• Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
• Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
• Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Certified Advanced Practice Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration preferred.

Education:

• Master's degree of Nursing required.
