Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Nurse Practitioner to provide inpatient and hospital-based care within the GI Hospitalist APP team. You will evaluate and treat patients, admit or consult as needed, and contribute to care planning during rounds with physicians.

This PRN role requires an MSN, current BLS, Alabama APN licensure, and a commitment to high-quality, cost-effective patient care. You may participate in teaching and clinical research while collaborating across hospital services.

Qualifications

• MSN in Nursing required.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Alabama APRN licensure required before hire date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends and supports efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care.
• Accepts patient referrals and acts as admitting/attending/consulting physician for hospitalized patients when needed.
• Participates in academic programs (education and research) as requested.
• Provides documentation meeting insurance requirements; appeals denials promptly.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultations, may include on-call schedules.

  • Schedule: PRN, available to work weekends. Saturday and Sundays onsite with GI Hospitalists
  • Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East in Trussville, Alabama. 50 Medical Park Drive.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
• Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
• Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
• Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree of Nursing required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Certified Advanced Practice Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration preferred.
